Where are you located?
Wulook Designs is currently operating and located in Melbourne, Australia
Where did you learn to screen print?
I was very briefly introduced to screen-printing in High School, but most of what I have learnt has been self-taught.
Thanks to YouTube I was able to see other screen printers work process, what worked for them and figure out what works best for me. I would not have come this far if I did not make so many mistakes!
Is every item screen-printed by hand? Most of them are. Only the fabric based products such as the cushion covers, bags, shirts, jumpers and scarves (I screen-print). The other wood based products (such as bookmarks, coasters, etc), are printed by other small businesses that specialise in wood printing and engravings.
Are all the designs yours?
They sure are! I create all the patterns and designs you see. The patterns are not normally created as planned designs, but I tend to create them based on how I’m feeling. When I’m bored or stressed, I “doodle” to relax. Most of the designs you see are unplanned creations.
The inspirations for my designs come from my Papua New Guinean background. PNG is a country filled with so many diverse cultures. I come from the East Sepik Province (up north-east of the country) it is also known as the Land of the Pukpuk (Crocodile). The Sepik people are known for their amazing carvings, which include a lot intricate patterns.
Is screen-printing all you do?
No. I graduated as a Digital Artist, but technically I studied 3D animation. When I studied 3D animation, the main process I enjoyed was creating the 3D world (such as the characters, objects and buildings). I love the idea of creating something from just basic shapes.
I also do freelance graphic design work.Screen-printing is what I love, because it’s not strictly reliant on a computer (or machine) to create beautiful art pieces. You can make wearable or wall art as long as you have the materials to print on.
Do you do custom orders?
I do. But it depends on what the custom order is. Some orders might be beyond my skill level that I won't be able to deliver quality product. In cases such as these, I will have to refuse or get assistance from another business, which will most likely cost a lot more.
Overall I do love a challenge! So if you are curious about something or want something done, don't hesitate to contact me via social media (Facebook or Instagram) and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
